Welcome

Welcome to St Twrog’s, the parish church of Llanddarog. The distinctive steeple of the church built at the high point of a ridge between Carmarthen and Cross Hands is visible throughout the neighbouring area. It is a landmark to the south side for those travelling along the busy A48 running east-west through Carmarthenshire, not far from the National Botanic Garden of Wales. It marks a place where worship and prayer have been offered and the love of God in Jesus Christ made known in the community since the days of Hywel Dda – Hywel the Good – the tenth century king and lawgiver of Deheubarth (the ‘Darog’of Llanddarog is believed to be one of his officials) and beyond to the sixth century Age of Saints when Twrog, the local man of God, established his community – his ‘Llan’ – on this high point between the Gwendraeth and the Tywi valleys.

The work of worship and prayer, witness, service and fellowship continues today with a lively congregation drawn from the village and the other communities in the parish – Porthyrhyd, Drefach, Mynyddcerrig, Cwmisfael. Our life and worship reflects the character of this rural parish which also at one time also had strong links with the coal mining industry of the Gwendraeth Valleys.

We invite you to visit St Twrog’s Church at the heart of our beautiful village and delightful community, set among the green hills and valleys of Carmarthenshire. On Sundays we normally hold two times of worship, a Welsh language service and an English service, and you are most welcome to join us in our worship and fellowship.

St Twrog’s Church is the Parish Church of the Parish of Llanddarog, linked through the Ministry Area of Llannau Tywi with the neighbouring Parishes of Llanarthne, Llangunnor and Cwmffrwd. It is a parish of the Diocese of St Davids in the Church in Wales, a Province of the Anglican Communion.
